2012 Spring Class Schedule

The Southwest Illinois School of Theology (SWIST) will be offering three courses for the Spring 2012 semester. These post-high school level classes are designed to give pastors, teachers, church leaders and those interested in Christian ministry the opportunity for more training within their local context. Three diploma programs are offered: Christian Ministries, Church Planting and Theology. Classes will usually meet for one night a week for fifteen weeks at various locations. Enrollment is open to all interested students. (Must be at least 21 years of age and been a Christian for at least one year.)

 

CLP 1512 - Pastoral Counseling - 3 Hours

This course helps the student to understand the nature of pastoral counseling while learning the practice of pastoral counseling at a beginning level.  Students are introduced to pastoral counseling values, goals, and processes while engaged in the classroom practice of counseling. Cognitive and behavioral approaches in agreement with Scriptural principles are applied in the multicultural learning process.

 

CLP 1111 - Ministry Foundations - 3 Hours

An entry course designed to assist students developing the necessary personal, spiritual, and ministerial foundations for life-long ministry. Students will engage in assessment of their gifts and passions in ministry and will encounter some basic approaches to effective ministry such as strategic, financial, and physical planning for ministry; communication and relational skills; and team and staff building.

CLS 1314 - New Testament Survey- 3 Hours

An introduction to the background, content, and criticism of the New Testament (NT). This course covers the Gospels, Acts, the epistles, general and Pauline, and Revelation.

 

"Audit Slots"

If you are interested in taking one of the courses offered at no charge, for your own personal knowledge, and you are willing to pay for your own books, participate in class and complete assignments, please call the MEBA office. Tests and writing assignments are at your discretion. There will be no "credit" given, just the blessing of learning along with others. We can only accommodate two auditors per class, on a first come first serve basis. If you should change your mind and decide you want credit for the class, you will need to decide by the second week of class so that online applications/fees may be processed in time for you to register as a new student.

 

New Student Enrollment

There will be two enrollment days for new students: Thursday, January 12 from 6 - 8 pm at the MEBA office, 4950 Old Collinsville Rd., Swansea, IL 62226, and Saturday, January 14 from 11 am to 1 pm at the GBA office at Crosspoint Church, 4539 Wanda Rd., Edwardsville, IL 62025. You may enroll at whichever office is convenient for you regardless of where the class you are signing up for will be held. After enrolling you will need:

1.  Completed Church Endorsement Form

2.  $25 non-refundable application fee plus the $125 course fee (total of $150 for new students)

3.  If working toward Diploma in Theology or Church Planting, students required to provide photocopy of high school/GED transcript or diploma. Not required for Diploma in Christian Ministries.
